Sources Say Phils Make Offer To Derek Lowe

The two Phillies blogs from philly.com, Philadelphia Inquirer Staff Writer Todd Zolecki's "The Phillies Zone" and The Philadelphia Daily News Staff Writer David Murphy's "High Cheese", along with an article from The Boston Globe today have reported that the Phils have made an offer to free agent right-handed pitcher Derek Lowe. As we all know, Lowe pitched for the Dodgers this past season and is a really good sinker ball pitcher.

The Phillies are supposedly one of two teams that have made an offer to Lowe, but it is not known what the other team is.

If the Phillies do sign Lowe, their potential rotation will look like this:
1. Cole Hamels
2. Brett Myers
3. Derek Lowe
4. Joe Blanton
5. Jamie Moyer/J.A. Happ/Kyle Kendrick/Carlos Carrasco/Andrew Carpenter

That potential rotation is according to Murphy. Not too shabby right? That is a pretty good looking set of starting pitchers on paper.

I would probably add in Adam Eaton to that potential fifth starter mix but at the bottom of it. Sure, he is a long shot for the Phils rotation this year, but he was originally signed to be a starter and maybe by some slight chance he'll pull through. Obviously, if the Phils sign Lowe and re-sign Moyer, then Moyer will be the one out of that mix in the rotation.

Take note, this Lowe stuff is really early talking right now. Obviously, there is more information that will be revealed as time moves on.
