On the Fence

In this huge mess of the Brian Dawkins saga, many people are left not knowing how to feel or what to think. Is Dawkins a Philadelphia legend? Is he a liar? Is his reputation tarnished?

When the news first broke, the initial reaction is to immediately blame this Eagles front office. Everyone who follows professional sports, especially football knows that it is a cruel business. Its extremely rare that an athlete has a tenure in which Dawkins had with the Eagles. This however is not a status quo situation, the Eagles front office proved on many occasions that they are heartless, gutless and show no loyalty.

As the saying goes, it takes two to tango. Dawkins ultimately was the one who excepted the deal from the Broncos and declined the deal the deal proposed by the Eagles. The Broncos offered Dawkins, 35, a 5 year $9.5 million with $7.5 million guaranteed over 2 years. The Eagles offered Dawkins a 2 year deal worth less than what the Broncos offered with in the first 2 years.

While the two sides to the story are much more elaborate and complicated, for those people who are still torn about this situation consider this. Joe Montana will always be 49er, Johnny Unitas will always be a Colt, and Brain Dawkins always an Eagle and a legend.
