In this post, we go over some of the great coaches in Philadelphia sports history. Since the information given out on these will probably be less than the players, I'll go over every coach on the list.

-Manager of the Athletics from 1901 to 1950
-Managed the 1910, 1911, 1913, 1929 and 1930 World Series Champions
-Managed the 1902, 1905, 1914 and 1931 American League Pennant Winners
-Has the most managerial wins and losses in the history of Major League Baseball with a record of 3,731-3,9483
-Had Shibe Park renamed after him in his honor
-In the National Baseball Hall of Fame


-Managed the 1915 Pennant Winning Phillies, improving their record by 17 games from the previous season where they finished sixth the year before.
-Player/Coach of the Yellow Jackets during their 1926 NFL Championship season

4. Eddie "The Mogul" Gottlieb (Philadelphia Warriors)

-Coached the Warriors during their 1947 Championship season
-Coached the 1948 Conference Champion Warriors
-Four of his first six seasons as coach they had over .500 records
-In the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame

5. Earle "Greasy" Neal (Eagles)

-Coached the Eagles from 1941 to 1950
-Coached the Eagles 1948 and 1949 Championship team
-Coached the Eagles 1947 Division winning team (technically conference champs by today's standards)
-Famous for having the Eagles be really one of the first teams, if not the first, to use the play action pass play
-First to really use the 4-3 defense
-Second best winning percentage for a coach in team history 
-Sporting News Coach of the Year in 1948
-In the National Football Hall of Fame

-Manager of the 1950 "Whiz Kids" that won the NL Pennant 

-In his first season as head coach, he took the Warriors from last place the year before to winning the 1956 Championship

-Coached the Eagles from 1958 to 1960 and took a team that was down in the dumps to winning the 1960 NFL Championship
-AP Coach of the Year in 1960
-UPI NFL Coach of the Year in 1960


-Coached the Sixers from 1966 to 1968 and was at the helm for the 76ers 1967 Championship team. 
-In the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame

-Coached the Flyers from 1971 to 1978
-Coached the Flyers during their 1974 and 1975 Stanley Cup Championships
-Coached the Flyers when they were Conference Champions in 1976
-Winningest coach in Flyers history with 308 and 48 in the playoffs
-In the Flyers Hall of Fame


-Managed the Phillies from 1973 to 1979
-Managed the Phils to three straight division titles in 1976, 1977 and 1978
-Coached the 76ers from 1973 to 1977
-Coached the 76ers 1977 Eastern Conference Championship team

-Coached the Flyers from the 1979 to 1982 seasons
-Coached the Flyers 1980 Conference Championship team that had a 35 game unbeaten streak during that season
-Received the Jack Adams Award in 1980 for being the coach that "contributed the most to his team's success."


-Coached the 76ers from the 1978 to 1985 seasons
-Coached the 76ers 1983 Championship team
-Coached the 76ers 1980 and 1982 Eastern Conference Championship team
-He reached 200, 300 and 400 wins faster than any other NBA coach in league history
-When he retired from coaching his 454 wins were the 12th best in league history 


-Coached the Eagles from 1976 to 1982
-Coached the Eagles 1980 NFC Championship Team
-UPI NFC Coach of the Year in 1978
-Pro Football Weekly Coach of the Year and Sporting News Coach of the Year in 1979
-Took the Eagles to the Playoffs in 1978, which was the first time in 18 years
-Led the Eagles to a winning season in 1978, which was the first one in 12 years


-Managed the Phillies from the end of 1979 to 1981
-Managed the Phillies 1980 Championship team
-On the Phillies Wall of Fame

-Managed the Phillies for a brief stint in 1972 and from the halfway point of 1983 to 1984
-After taking over mid-season from the general manager's position, he managed the Phililes to the 1983 NL Pennant 
-On the Phillies Wall of Fame

-Coached the Flyers from the 1984 to 1988 seasons
-Coached the Flyers 1985 and 1987 Prince of Wales Conference Championship teams
-Made the playoffs every year as Flyers head coach
-Won the Patrick Division in his first three seasons as Flyers coach

-Managed the Phillies from 1991 to 1996
-Managed the Phillies during their memorable 1993 NL Pennant season after finishing in last place the year before

-Coached the Flyers from the 1995 to 1997 season
-Coached the Flyers 1997 Eastern Conference Championship team
-Brought the Flyers back to the playoffs in 1995 after missing it the five previous seasons
-His coaching record for the Flyers was 118-64-30


-Coached the 76ers from the 1998 to 2003 season
-Coached the 76ers 2001 Eastern Conference Championship team
-Led the Sixers back to the playoffs in 1999 after missing it for seven straight years
-Won the NBA Coach of the Year Award in 2001
-In the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame


-Has coached the Eagles since 1999
-Coached the Eagles 2004 NFC Championship team
-Is the winningest coach in Eagles history
-Has made the playoffs seven out of his 10 seasons as Eagles coach so far
-Has made the NFC Championship Game five times in the last eight seasons
-Maxwell Football Club NFL Coach of the Year Award winner in 2000 and 2002
-Sporting News Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2002
-Pro Football Weekly Coach of the Year in 2002
-AP Coach of the Year in 2002

-Has Managed the Phillies since 2005
-Managed the Phillies 2008 Championship team, which was the first team to win a championship in Philadelphia since 1983
-Managed the Phillies to the playoffs in 2007 by winning the NL East (also in 2008), which was the first time the Phils made the playoffs since 1993
