The deadline to offer players in Major League Baseball arbitration was last night and the Phillies declined to offer it to either Jamie Moyer or Pat Burrell. They also did offer it to Tom Gordon or Rudy Seanez.
Back to Burrell and Moyer though. All this means is that the Phils will not get draft picks as compensation if Burrell or Moyer sign with other teams. It does not mean they are not going to be back next year. The Phils are just trying to play the market right and use their money wisely. In other words, if Burrell or Moyer do come back, it will probably be for less money than they would have gotten if the Phils offered them arbitration.
