Jayson Stark of ESPN has reported that former Braves and Padres player, Marcus Giles, and the Phillies have reached an agreement for a minor league contract worth $600,000 if he makes the Opening Day roster.
Comment: This adds depth at 2nd base for the Phils as Chase Utley works his way back from surgery. Giles will likely compete with Eric Bruntlett and Jason Donald for the starting spot at 2nd if Utley is not able to return for Opening Day.
